Presentation

Chemistry is one of the scientific areas that has contributed most to the development of today’s society, through the discovery or application of new substances, products or materials with impact on technological development and on the improvement of population’s quality of life. The increasingly complex challenges facing society in such diverse areas as health, food security, forensic research, environment, energy or even the defense sector, among others, require highly skilled, flexible and creative technicians capable of solving them.

The Master’s or 2nd Cycle of Studies in Chemistry of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department (DQB) of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL), aims to provide students with advanced training in emerging areas of chemistry, supported by solid theoretical and experimental components in various basic branches, and the development of decision-making skills, strategic thinking and organizational capabilities.

In post-Bologna, the 2nd Cycle of Studies in Chemistry was thought to be an imperative in the consolidation and expansion of the basic knowledge acquired in the 1st Cycle of Studies, becoming an essential and differentiating education for the insertion of graduates in the demanding labor market of the science and technology sector.
